My xFx (F stands for F***ed) 6800gt resting core GPU = 52C
Ave. about 68+/-C wiht full load on UT 2004.

Wow! 7800gt runs much cooler....and I wonder why my resting and load temps for the 6800gt are lower than yours...is that 6800gt heavily oc'd?

My 6800GT ran hotter than most the whole time I had it. Not sure what the deal was. I was amazed when I got my 7800GT and how much cooler it was, and also how it ripped my 6800GT to shreds in games.

How was the 6800 GT for games though, pretty good? I've got an AGP board and ive been wanting to get something better then my 9800 pro. I'm not a graphic fiend, I dont mind not being able to max my game. So hows a 6800 gt do? Can you put it on high settings in something like FEAR and have it run decently? Or is it not worth it and I should wait until i can completely overhaul to PCIE board?

I would say wait and do a complete overhaul with a PCI-E board. AGP cards are getting really hard to find, in fact you can't find AGP 6800GTs anymore. If you were to find one, the 6800GT is a great card. I was able to max out all my games including FEAR. The reason I upgraded to the 7800GT though is so I could play my games at 1280x1024, my LCD's native resolution. The 6800GT did okay with it, but it was a little choppier at times than I liked especially in FEAR.

eVGA 7800gt

530/1250

idle 46C

load 53C

I want to try and put my system in this huge case i modded out to 13 80mm fans maybe hit 550 core and 1300 mem

6800GT @ 440/1200
Idle: 38C
Load: 43-44C

Mines water cooled though.

To the thread originator, your temps aren't bad at all so I don't see why you'd be upset. My 6800GT AGP card on stock heatsink was like 65C idle and rose to 85C full load but it was also during summer when I had that.

I've got the PCI-E version now, and although it's winter, it stays decently warm on most days here in the high desert of california....especially with my door closed right now my room is decently warm.
