I have a new SATA Maxtor 250GB HDD that I just installed as the only HDD on my computer. I formatted it in NTFS, just a single partition, with XP Pro. Everything went smoothly and it's running fine now.
However, when I look to properties, it does recognize the Total Space on the drive as being 233 GB, but for some reason, it says that I only have 124 GB of free space. This is not possible because all the files installed on my hard drive currently only add up to less than 2 GB. I also ran the disk management utility, and indeed, it recognizes the drive as being 233.76 GB on a single partition, but, with only 124 GB of free space. Is there any explanation for this? How could half of my drive already be taken up by something, when I just freshly installed the OS on it, and there are no other files residing on the drive?
Thanks.
