What is the best way (and low on cost) to hook up 2 monitors to 1 computer?

The purpose would be to work on one monitor and maybe just surf on the other. It would also be nice to be able to work in Excel using one monitor and to work with Word using the other.

Please reply for the technologically impaired!

The easiest way that I can think of is installing a second Video card (PCI) With XP this will give you two independant displays so that when you full screen an app it's not stretched across both screens. It's really easy and pretty cheap if you don't have a dual head card (has two video connectors). The other option is to buy a dual head card and use the Nview(nvidia) software or Hydravision (ati). There is some performance lag with this, but it can suit the need pretty easy.
Hope this helps.

Totatly agree with Inaris .. I use the nview like crazy ..
I work on my monitor .. n' play videos on the TV ...
Sometimes when i want some window constaly on the secon screen etc..

I think going in for a dual head AGP card os the best option .. 'coz adding another PCI card ..has it's own set of problems

N' in any case almost all new display cards come with dual heads

Wow! Thanks for the replies. The links were very helpful.

I'll be checking what card I have installed and whether I need another card.
