I just started noticing this a day or two ago. I thought my eyes might have been watery, but when i asked my parents to look at it, they saw the same thing.

Here's the problem, portions of my LCD screen change the text color and appearance. Pictures will better show what i mean.

It's best to look at the original size. Notice how the circled portion in the first one and the "Australian Mist" in the second is so fuzzy? That's what it is. I've cleaned my monitor three times already with no avail. This is on any website i go to, but more noticable when on forums with a large portion of text.

What could this be and how could i fix it?

That is strange, have you changed any monitor settings recently? Change in graphics card/drivers and so forth?

I'm really at a bit of a loss I'm afraid, perhaps the monitor itself is damaged or on it's way out? Is it a new panel or have you had it a few years?

This monitor is fairly new (just hit one year exactly today :D) No video-related hardware changes recently.

The model number is FP731. I got it when i purchased my Alienware one year ago today. I noticed that the FP731 isn't on BenQ's website so it makes me wonder if Alienware gave me a junk monitor. (They originally sent me a mobo with a fried integrated network plug  )

It's possible, although if it's deteriorated it's not quite "junk". Then again, my TFT is a BenQ as well and it came with a note saying you can expect a few dead pixels and the like, thats not a returnable problem. It's a shame I have a couple that really annoy me (pixel or two stays black on white background hence is quite obvious)

You got any other monitors to try? I'm suspecting it's monitor related, but if you could hook something else up to it and see if you get any areas of "fuzziness" then you can rule out anything upto the monitor.

First monitor i tried, didn't get to the desktop. At the point in which i should have, the monitor went on idle and stayed there.

Second monitor, i'm currently using, and the whole screen is slightly fuzzy rather than portions.

Hmm thats very odd indeed. Sounds like your card is set to a strange resolution or refresh rate (hence why the first CRT didn't do anything - it seems to suggest an unsupported resolution/refresh rate)

I'm not entirely sure what the consequence of the second one is, after seeing TFT's looking at anything on a CRT looks comparatively fuzzy.

It's mainly the presence of patches of fuzziness that concerns me, if it were uniform it might have been more likely to be a software problem.

Is the monitor still under warrenty? If so, I'd give them a bell and see what they reckon. It may be a known problem for the particular monitors.

Is this degenerating? If so, it looks like it's doing so rapidly. There may well be a fault with your monitor as you just seem to keep having display problems of varying degrees.

Is it still under warrenty?
