I just got an Athlon XP 1800+ for free and I wanted to buy a new video card. I was looking at the 6600GT APG version, now I'm probably going to be unlocking the multipliers and overclocking the cpu but I don't have the best motherboard. I have the Gigabyte GA-7VAX. I've flashed the bios and updated it to it's most recent one. The system has 512MB of OCZ value ram at 400MHz. Will it be woth it to buy a 6600GT? What kind of frames will I get in games like DOOM3 and HL-2?

my processor and ram are higher, but that motherboard is better...

doom3 works fine for me... (medium/high settings)

I don't have halflife 2,

but starwars battlefront, and 2 work excelently at highest settings...

and need for speed most wanted works fine with all settings maxed out, untill my pc gets hot (I'm only useing stock cooling...)

Yea I wan't to get this PC running faster a bit faster, right now I have a Radeon 128 pro lol. I was looking at overclock this hs/f to get a decent overclock, is it any good. Looks good to me, I can pick it up for $18 Canadian. Is there anything else that would be good to upgrade? BTW what your fps?

i would get the 6600gt if i were u but get the 8x/4x version so if u ever upgrade to a better cpu ull be able to use the 8x.

I don't know if I'm going to upgrade. My friend wants to sell me his computer, it's got 512MB of ram (must upgrade that), Athlon 64 3400+ (SKT 754), 9600XT 256MB, Asus K8N-E NF3 motherboard. There's no hard drive or case and psu. He wants $450 Canadian for it, any good? If I buy the 6600GT I'll get it for X-mas then can pop it into my Athlon XP. After when and if I buy my friends system, I can sell my Athlon XP but put the 9600XT on it. Sound like a plan lol?
