I am considering buying a Dvd burner and want to know what the difference between a multi-format DVD-RW ie: + and - or just a DVD-RW which is just got - burning capability. It it worth getting a + / - or just a -. Also why are the DVD-R more expensive if they are + whereas they are cheaper if they are -

Best to get a multi format drive now. They are everywhere and are pretty cheap. Then you can pick you media too.

As far as formats go, I think it was found that DVD-R was the more widly supported format. Although with better drives coming out, DVD+R should be good. The difference is in the way they write on the media. Something about using peaks and valleys in a certain way... Can't remember it all, but I hope that helps...

There's no real accepted standard yet for the DVD burners. The two that are used are the + and -. What the difference is, I have no idea, but it's best to go with the multi-format burner. Then it doesn't matter which one comes out on top.
