Usb Port?

i am trying to figure out whats wrong with my parents friends computer everytime i insert something into a usb port nothing happens usually a box should pop saying new hardware found or something long that line but there is nothing happening. what do you think is the cause of the problem?how can i fix it?

most likely drivers. go into device mgr and look for question marks

Under the device manager, again, try troubleshooting the usb drivers or updating them. Idk what else could be wrong with them other than the drivers, as bruce said (not too knowin about usb's >_>). Also make sure they're not checked 'disabled' ^_~

i would go into the BIOS setup and make sure the onboard usb is enabled. if the power went out and the battery was low it may have reset the settings and on a lot of boards that means disabling onboard usb.

here is the thing i can use my printer in the usb port but the printer of theirs doesnt recongize it
