I recently bought a new mobo and want to switch my components over to it. The problem is my heatsink won't fit on the new mobo. There are diodes or whatever beside the cpu socket that won't allow it to sit on the cpu. The cpu is old, a celeron 1.3Ghz, and I don't use the computer for anything really intensive or anything. My question is do I really need the heatsink or can I get by without it.
I know this is probably a stupid question but I have never gotten into anything like this before and would appreciate some advice.
Thanks in advance.

yes you need a heatsink!!! that thing will probably fry in a max of 10 seconds without one. you could get a smaller heatsink or mod the board. the diodes you speak of im willing to bet are capacitors. if they are cap's then you could desolder them and move them aside by attaching them to wires, if you are that way inclined.
