I'm running a P4 3.2 on 800FSB with 1GBDDR, 9800XT 256, and ABIT IS7 MB. I'm probably not going to upgrade to something else for atleast 6 months. I have heard bits of information that using Onboard devices may actually take away some performace.

Does anyone think that I can get some extra performance by disabling the onboard sound (and maybe even the NIC) and adding these peripherals to the available PCI slots I have on the MB?

well the onboard sound uses so little resources you would not notice a difference. But for onboard graphics on the other hand, that is a big difference.

Throw on a sound card, the oly difference you will see is the quality.

Onboard sound takes a small portion of the CPU processing time, however Onboard LAN is faster then an add on card.

You can buy a cheap sound card and disable onboard if you want.

Im not huge on sound. The onboard sound works for me, as far as quality. I have a surround sound setup and it works fine. SO I am sure a sound card I could find on ebay for $20-30 word suit me fine *if* it was worth it to disable it onboard. Just thinking out loud here...:amazed:
