Hey all....curious...
Potentially going to purchase new motherboard and processor. Depending which brand/speeed comes out on top, a new vid card as well....(if funding permits).

My current system...gigabyte pro MB, ati 9600xt, 1 gb ddr 400, P4 2.4 HT, audigy zs.
When I play CS Source...I lag and the action is too much. I have had this system for maybe 3 yrs....vid card came a bit later.
anyhow, I see a whole lot of Asus this and Asus that as well as AMD. I see alot of AMD processors that are like 2.4ghz but seem to run much better and faster than intel.
To sum this up, since I am guaranteed that you all know vastly more than I, which combo set up would be good for me that will last technologie/gaming wise for the next few years? Sayaround $400.00?
Any honest help and input wouldbe appreciated.:)
also...should i be leaning more towards the newer boards that support pci-E?

400 dollars would be around 100 for the mobo and 300 for the processor.

You can get my mobo*MSI K8N NEO2-PLATINUM* and stick with your 9600XT for a while so you can afford the X2 3800+ which is a dual core processor which would help you in multi tasking for aroudn 300 dollars so that would come under 400 dollars :D

definately go pci-e
for $400 total you could get an AMD 64 3700 and a DFI ultra-d

If your not gonna overclock then get a cheaper MSI board.
If you can scrape together like $150 more then you could get a 6600gt vid card which would be better than what you have.

That would definitely be a good decision. Nice mobo and processor, get the vid card later, when you can scrape up the cash ;)

thanks

wow...that was fast for replies. I appreciate the input...
any thoughts as to why AMD to would be better than intel? They seem to be pulling stronger each year into the market...yet they both have Agreements and arrangements to share certain technology...so who's better for the buck?

AMD is better for the buck, for the gaming, for the power, and just about everything else.
