hi,

i have a second hard drive that i just hooked up as slave.

i would like to load windows on it and use it as a backup or when i
reformat.

how do i load windows xp on it?

i also remember something about the computer share both drives with xp on both etc etc etc......

thnx

You can't boot off a slave, configure it to be master then you can boot off of it, the other drive needs to be slaved to back up information on it.

If the drive has XP on it you need to run a repair of it, for it to load.

what do u mean by this?

Was the second harddrive with XP on it, installed on another computer?

If it was you need to configure it as master, boot off the XP disc you used to format and install the OS on that drive and run a repair on it, This will tell the BIOS/CMOS where the OS is.

And you just want to use it for data storage or back up?

If so then you set it as slave, and format it from windows. You would go to disk managment in windows and slect format on the unformated drive.

you would set it as a master and then set the other drive to not boot at startup by going into the bios.

now, once both xp's are on it and then i put the newly installed back as slave what advantage do i get between the 2, when i'm in normal operation

You don't put XP on both if you want to use the second drive as storage, I told you to format it in windows through disk managment, you would need to set blank drive as slave.

Only advantage is extra space.
