The AMD 64 x2 4200 says 2x521kb and the 4400 says 2x1mb cache. Is that going to be a noticable difference for $100 difference in price?

It could depending on how high your standards are but where it clearly becomes unclear is the 4400 to the 4800.

Get the opteron 170 which is 50 dollars more ;) it has the same cache size as the X2 4400+ without the hefty price tag, i think its around 415 retail somewhere, priced are getting higher

It's a server CPU and it's prices are going up.

Because it's a server CPU I assume it uses the 940 chipset so that may cause compatability issues.

but the opteron has far more ocing capabilities then the X2 4400+.

I think im right.

there are s939 opterons now, but only in the 1xx series. but they come in dual core.

essentially, they are exactly the same as San Diego and Toledo A64's, but with a different name.

It's s939, good Proccessor. Even with my not so great 541, I was able to get 2.6 Ghz, not bad.
