Sound Problem

Hi Everyone! This is my first post

I'm having a problem with a pc can anyone help me out?

Its an XP home system. It plays music in itunes but won't play system sounds i.e. boot sound, msn sounds. Any idea whats wrong

I've tried updating drivers but that didn't work

My friend discovered the problem when trying to play music on www.pandora.com. But i think it's been like this for a while.

are your windows sounds turned off in cp?

None of them are muted in the sounds control panel if thats what u mean

Give me some background....Itunes, isn't that an Apple pay per song deal? So you buy a song and download it as an AAC file? Have you installed proprietary software that reads AAC files? It might be the software defualt to AAC, and if that is the case, your standard windows sounds would then be defaulting to that software which does not read windows media. ??????

yeah itunes is apple. But windows medial player works too. I used dxdiag to test directx sounds which are ok
