Are CPU's considered microchips? I don't think that they are, but I am not sure, I havn't read anything to tell me different. Thanks .

Quick responses appreciated, as i need to know for a PPT i am building. Thanks again. :beard:

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe a microprocessor is simply defined as a single integrated circuit that can control arithmetic, logic and control operations...which is basically what a CPU or any other processor is for that matter

You could very well be right, i just wasn't sure and i hadnt found anything that told me different. I appreciate your fast response. thanks.

Yes, CPUs are considered microchips. Gaara was right in saying that the term "microchip" is SO broad, that it basically encompasses every piece of circuitry in a computer nowadays. I'm sure you've all seen this definition, but I thought it was worth posting.

Microchip: A small, silicon object containing microscopic circuitry.

That basically describes everything in a processor!
