I have an old IBM Thinkpad A21m that I'm selling to a friend. It came with Windows 98SE, and I later upgraded to XP. I'd like to wipe the whole thing clean with a fresh install of XP. How can I go about doing this? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling XP but it pretty much kept all my old settings and files on the hard drive.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. I tried deleting the partition but it says "this partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation." I'm not sure how to proceed now.

oh.... I hate when that happens... get a win98 startup disk if you can, and delete the partition, then reinstall windows...

do you have a floppy disk, and a drive to put it in?

I'm sure you can download one somewhere..., do you have a computer with windows 98?

go into the add remove programs, and one of those tabs should be "startup disk", make one, then start up the computer with it in, and press shift+F5 to enter command prompt, then type fdisk, then follow the steps to delete the partition
