I have Windows XP on my system and I want to know what steps have to be taken for it to run a 64bit processor.

well, do you even have an athlon 64? If you want XP to be working in 64-bit, you need XP x64. but the only way for it to work is if you have a 64-bit Pentium or Athlon.

Yes, you need a 64 bit operating system to use your processor in 64 bit mode.

However it will run fine in a 32 bit operating system, like what you have now.

Nothing has to be done...you just hook it up and go about your business.

WARNING: A lot of programs designed for Windows XP wont always work on the 64-bit edition. But if you want all of your processor power then you'll have to go with the 64-bit edition

True story. It's kinda like using a Subaru WRX STi for a drag racer when it has superior handling abilities that aren't being taken advantage of
