i don't think your duron would be faster. have you tried data backup and use the restore CD?

yeah, and about 2 weeks after doing that, i could not get into the control panel. (Duron runs hella faster - This compaq is a 2.4 intel smeleron came with 128 ddr, now 256 - If i ask ol betty to do something, it does it no questions asked. with this thing, it is crap.)

what operating system are we talking about here? and had you made any hardware/software changes that led up to it?

nah. but you know what, the other day it started working again. But then it stopped again, and then it started working again.
