Yet another PC problem

Okay, my roomie just built a computer, but when he boots up (the monitor is connected) nothing comes up on the screen. There's no BIOS that comes up or anything. Just black nothingness.

He said no disc came with his hard drive and tried putting in his motherboard disc to check to see if it needed to load anything prior to getting his BIOS.

Help! He's asking me and I have no freaking clue!

try another monitor to see if this one is broken. the likely possibilities are the graphics card or monitor. if another monitor doesn't work try another video card with the first.
