Case to in?sert hardrive to recover data

Do they have cases that you put the a hard drive in that you need to recover the data off of? SOmeone told me you can buy these "cases" which ends up being just like an external hard drive, and all you do is plug it in and voila you can see and collect your data? Is this true?
I need one and need to know where to buy one.

what your friend is talking about is an external hard drive enclosure like the one found here

all you do is pop the hard drive in...and it's now a USB or firewire hard drive
