Windows XP Pro vs Server 2003

I'm going to be building a Dedicated Game server for my Son in the next couple of months to run Half Life and ID games. Which OS wll best serve my needs or should I do the Linux thingy??? Thanks!

Server 2003 if you want Windows. You can use XP I think but Server 2003 is more secure.

Linux is not my thing for critical programs and applications but if your good at it Linux can do what you want.

i dont know ALOT about operating systems, but i do know that xp will guzzle the memory like an SUV, so..for games i would go with windows 2000.

Do you want this only to be a dedicated game SERVER or a server and a PC which will be used to play the game on as well as host? If you are simply hosting on it then we could tell ya a bit better.

It would be a server and a PC(server on a PC). Apparently, that makes a difference. He will be both moderating and playing.
