Hi,

I currently own a Dell Dimension 8300. It has 120gb hard drive in it which I have pretty much maxed out and would therefore like to add an additional hard drive to the system.

Initially, I thought I could throw in any IDE hard drive and that would be ok. However, having read various posts etc on the web I now have some doubt in my mind about whether this is possible.

I have found the system documentation which lists the following about drives etc:

Available devices
ATA-66 or ATA-100 Ultra DMA hard drive, serial ATA drive, CD drive, Zip drive, DVD drive, CD-RW drive, DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and DVD+RW drive

System board connectors:
Primary IDE channel -- 40-pin connector on PCI local bus
Secondary IDE channel -- 40-pin connector on PCI local bus

Therefore does this mean I am limited to ATA-100 Ultra DMA hard drives, such as:

Or am I able to put in either of the following:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=182617
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=258254

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

THe second and third drive you listed, both state under the specifications, that their interface is IDE (EIDE) which is the same thing, and which is what you have on your computer. All computers come standard with that. Any of those three drivs should work on your system.
