My friend wants some extra RAM for his Dell so he came to me to find out what kind he needs to buy.
Would this RAM:

be compatible with this dell? (pics)

Much thanks in advance :D

uh, contact dell... the 'key' on the DIMM module is screwed up on Dells if I'm not mistaken. I think they shift it so you can't use generic ram in the machines. It helps them make money off of you, the consumer. If it DOES fit, then get what Avalanch3 said.

well, the only way I can think of is... take the ram out of your PC, count the # of pins on either side of the key. (the key is the 'slot' where there are no pins) Then go online and count the pins on either side of the type of ram you're going to buy.

If you go to dell's web site they have a memory finder. You'll need the service tag # from the back of his PC. It should be easy to find some numbers and letters next to a bar code. Put that code into dell's memory finder and it will tell you what to buy.

I would write down the type of memory they are trying to sell you, then go to newegg or other site and buy that kind of memory off them. It will be much cheaper.

If you were more specific about your computer besides all the technical aspects of it as far as the model and name i may have been able to look it up for you. However it is always better to run a couple of online scans from accredited memory providers to get the exact memory for that computer. Run the scans at both of these sites to make sure that they tell you the same response of what the system takes. If so write down the specs of the type of memory for example something like 256MB DDR2-533 PC2-4200 240-PIN, you should also make sure to see if it is supposed to be unbuffered an non ECC, but dont get nervous if you get the first part right it should go ok. Once you get this information your ready to go shopping for your memory here's where you can look for a deal all over the net and new egg is a good place, but look before you buy.. Good Luck
