Yes, for gaming. But you don't have to stop there... unless you want to.

The good thing is that you can always upgrade to a biger processor later, or even a X2. Just be sure you get a decent overclocking mobo, so you can milk your CPU for all it's worth.

That's a better quality mobo, slowcomp. ESPECIALLY if you plan to overclock, as trotter suggested, to pull everything you could from your rig.

Venice is a better core IMO. 3500+ Venice or the Opteron 148 would be an excellent choice for a medium budget processor.
