SoundMAX on Toshiba Laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a SoundMAX integrated sound card. It makes noise constantly (a kinda scratching or crickett like sound) when not pluged into the A/C adapter. It also dose not make the sound in safe mode which leads me to beleive it is a driver problem. I have the newest drivers installed but that dose not help.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this and what I can do to solve the problem?
