I am thinking of upgrading an 80mm fan at the back of my case, would replacing it with a 120mm fan make much difference to sound levels or temperature?

Would it be worth it?

Im sure 120mm are better temp wise. Not sure about sound though.

Most 120mm fan's are just as quiet as 80's or 92's Not unless you get a huge cfm one like the Tornado

if you get one that moves less air, and spins slower, it can be dramatically quiet.

i bought all my fans from frozencpu.com and the 120mm fan i got is just as queit as the 80 and 90 mm fans, It does however move a little more air because of its size.

I would recoment 120mm fans, they move just as much air (or more) at a lower rpm setting, and are quieter than a 80mm or 90mm.

120mm fans have a greater surface area, thus move more air at lower RPM ratings, thus creates less noise. Because of the larger surface area, the noise is more of a dull sounding one rather than a high piched sound you get from 80mm fans. The sound is much more bearable than 80mm fans.

If you are going from 80 to 120 you are going to need an adapter so it will fit
