I was looking at the model#, my bad

I think the 6600GT is overkill for my needs, honestly.

just for some perspective.

the 6600gt is probably the minimum recomended card for running games such as... Doom3, Halflife2, FEAR, etc.

I used both the 6600GT and 6800GS and Standard 6800.

I like the stability and extra band width of the Standard 6800, but the 6600GT is good especialy at the price it is right now... the 6800GS is probably 2x as good performance wise as the 66.

I'm not a gamer, shouldn't that bring down the level of acceptable video acceleration?

yea if you dont plan on gaming it doesnt matter... But if you play some miscellaneous game in the future, you probably wont beable to unless you have a 6600gt or higher.

:(

I was thinking about dabbling into some games every now and then....I'm just gonna get the 256mb 6600LE and see how it performs and go from there...I found a site that reviews it and shows some awesome screen shots of the graphics the thing displays with a setup nearly identical to the one I have picked out, not bad at all.

FYI - if your going to be using the A64 3200+, this is how it turns out if you buy the parts from newegg....

6600LE $88 + 3200 $152 = $240

6600GT $100 + 3200 combo price $137 = $237
but newegg just raised 66GT price by $15 = $252
still only 12 bucks more.

Notes - the extra 256MBs of ram on the LE dont mean anything. it will not perform better because it has more ram.

LE indicates the lowest model for Nvidia, some of the 6600LE's actually only have 64bit memory bandwidth, the GT has 128bit, the 6800 is 256bit.

the 6600LE might only perform half as good as the 6600GT at best. If your buying your parts as shown above, i highly suggest you go with the 6600GT not just cause its much better, but because its only $12 more.

**** you guys are gonna make me buy that **** GT:mad: But keep in mind that you can only get the GT for $99 after you send in a rebate, so in all actuality, I'd be paying $137 and $150, nearly $300, to get that combo, with shipping it'll be even closer to $300, if not over.

But at the same time, everybody has nothing but good things to say about the GT so maybe I'll splurge........you know I'm gonna be searching high a low for a better card than the one I was gonna get, but lesser than the GT, hehe.

Looks like they brought the Price back down to $99 after rebate. they just arnt advertizing the rabate with it any more lol, but you can still do it if you wont.

The reabate is righ there.... http://65.119.30.151/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/sh/PNY14-133-137&129Nov23Dec0705rl12.pdf

all Graphics cards with 1 or even 2 DVI connections such as that 6600GT come with 2 VGA adapters. you can see them in the picture.

but hey its up to you, if you cant aford to wait 2 months for the $40 rebate check, go ahead with a different graphics card... i was just trying to point out that you could get a much better graphics card for the same price.

EDIT: no matter what parts you decide on ordering, remember you need /PowerSupply /Motherboard /CPU /Ram /Graphics Card .....you need those parts in order to test to see if each part is working properly. so you sould order them all in a close time period, unless you have a different more modern computer you can use to test the parts in.

And you only have to December 7 to make up your mind on that GT. thats when the rebate ends.

i can save you the trouble... the only thing inbetween performance wise is the standard 6600, and the 9800pro, however they both perform wose then the 6600GT and cost over $100, example i think the 9800pro still goes for something like $130, witch is rediculouse considering the 6600GT is now just 140, 100 after rebate.
