PC wont restart successfully

Hello all,

ok, when I try to restart my computer (not the emergency button ) it says saving your details etc ... then as it finishes goes to a black screen where usually the loading of windows would begin, but mine doesnt. Just sits on a black screen, I can still move my cursor but nothing else. It will still shut down ok and reboot if i use the manual button on the machine. Have run antispyware, virus, registry cleaning, etc .. but still no luck.

What can I do ?

2048 DDR SDRAM
Windows SP2

Hit the f8 key at intitial boot and see if you can log into the safe mode. What did you do to your puter just prior to the problem statrting? If you can get into safe mode, do a system restore for a date just prior to the onset of the problem. You have some kind of hardware failure or driver conflict at startup.

Tried going back over a week to where I know it was working fine. Now I cannot reboot/shut down without it hanging on a blank screen with my cursor. Have to manually do it.

Could this be a problem with software of the actuall MB?

Any other ideas? Thanks.

check power management settings, they can cause a windows pc to hang at shutdown/reboot. check the power management options in control panel and see that advanced power management (APM) is enabled.

there might be a program that refuses to close. did you install anything new recently?
