Hey all.

Im running right now:

P4 2.4 oc 2.8
MSI MS6728
1gb pc2100 ram
Saphire 9600 Atlantis 256mb
80gb 133 hdr

I want to upgrade to:

Athlon 64 3000+ Venice
AsRock 939Dual s939
Connect3d x800GTO (OC to open 16pipes)
Corsair 512x2 3200 ram
WD SATA 150 80gb

I know this will be fast but by how much?
I am also puzzled by statements made about the Athlon 64 chip:

" I overclocked this bad boy to 2.2Ghz and it runs at 36C on idle and 42C on full load with stock heatsink." or " Great overclocker. I have mine a 2.637 Ghz and my current memory is the only thing holding it back" or " This 3000 is running at 2700
on air, a great pc for the money."

Now I am running the P4 at 2.8 but everyone's review of the A64 chip shows they are all happy to hit 2.4 or 2.5/ What am I missing?
Is it that since its an Athlon 64 that measuring clockrate is different?

Also any advice for the upgrade?

Thanks!

Rob

Yes, the clockrate architecture is different. An AMD 3000 is equivlent to a pentuin 3.0 ghz. Even though the amd clockspeed is like 2.0 or something. Dont worry about it, just get the amd if you're gaming. Youll be happy you did.

You would be better off going with a Nvidia 6800gs vs that ATI product, IMHO.

so would a amd 3500+ be equal to a 3.5 pentium??

In terms of speed, yuh. Though there seem to be some established diffs. in how well the 2 perform compared to the other in different areas.
