external harddrive disconnects with high transfer

Hi guys, im looking for some help with my enermax external harddrive storage

i put in it a 80gb pata normal hdd which works fine when i connect it to my mobo but in my external storage it just disconnects after some time (10-15 s generally) with high transfer rate. I tried slower transfer rate and it worked.

I dont know what to increase or decrease... the powersupply is externe (power plugs/ac adapter) so i dont think its the prob.

btw, can someone tell me how to slow down my usb2 to usb 1.1, so that i can still have some transfer even if its slow.

I'm pretty sure you can set the USB speed to 1.1 in the BIOS. Just look around for a bit and I'm sure you will find it. My setting on my Asus A7N8X is under the "Advanced Bios Options" tab or something close to that.
