I didn't tell him that because he probably didn't have a second computer around to make boot floppies as you have to be inside of windows to make them. another thing he could have did was make 2-3 partitions with the xp disc before he install windows

like the man says get norton partition magic 8 it`ll show ur unallocated space then you just choose merge hey presto! you now can use your extra space, But what people fail to mention is that its not *free* nudge nudge wink wink, you could try this:

you can do that (merge the partition) with pm 8, but I would not recommend it. I would make 1 30 gig partition for xp, then use the rest as my document or make a documents and movie (or music) partition for better performance.
