I have serius problem with my Ati 9550 vga card...
LOTS of problems!

I will post some of them:
First of all, when I start my pc, 99% of the times my monitor
doesn't open. In order to make it work again I do really stupid
things like unplug my DVD-ROM or RAM. I know it makes no
sense but most of the times my pc starts corectly and the items
stay unpluged 'till the next restart. (that's one of the most serius
problems i have).
Secondly, when i'm running windows, sudenly screen freeze and
after few secs it turns off while pc still running.
And the last problem is that when i restart my pc and logs on in
windows,i see an error message says that windows just came
up from a serius problem which is caused from my vga card and
monitor.
I think it has to do with drivers but I can't find anything good
at Ati site. only this:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293
I downloaded the full version and it crashes.
****...so many problems =\

Thanks for your time...

when you say doesn't open Do you mean when you turn on the computer or when windows trys to load.. Drivers only affect windows...

It sounds like a Memory issue if it's when you turn on the computer.

and not the graphics card (unless you see the hard drive reading and hear windows load up etc)

More info about whether you get a video signal while its booting or if its only in windows would be useful. Running Memtest is a great start if you get video while booting, and after that your power supply could be on the skitz.

If you don't get video during boot either I would see if you can get your hands on another video card to try out.

What kind of motherboard do you have, and did you just install the 9550 and get this problem or has it previously been working fine?

I would check for newer video card drivers sometimes that causes every thing :D

if that dont work I dont know what it would be maybe a bad graphics card

Drivers won't do squat I doubt. If its failing to show you a screen most of the time when you power on, it has nothing to do with drivers since those only load in windows. It has to do with a hardware/bios issue, probably a hardware one in your case. What power supply are you using, and what other stats. Have you overclocked your card in the past (and maybe fried it)?

To me it sounds like these are the most likely causes (in order)

1. Your power supply is dieing on you, and you need a new one

2. Your video card has died, and you need a new one.

if its beeping a lot then its memory, otherwise its one of those 2 things.

first of all thanx for your replies =)

I don't get any spesific signal when 'm booting my pc. the normal
is to hear 1 beep from the system speaker but sometimes i
don't hear that beep or it sounds more than once. but in all
cases it is possible to fail the boot.

Nvidia that's what i tried to do too but i can't find anything. I
posted a link with the drivers I found but they don't seem to be
correct.

Kurt2439 my mob is Gigabyte GT GA-8IPE775-G and yes,in past
the card was working fine. But because i wasn't sure of what is
the root of these problems,i didn't bought any new part.

Mr_Threepwood the prob with drivers is when i log in in windows.
I use LASE 400W power supply. as about the o/c,if you mean my
VGA card no,i never o/c it. I had o/c my cpu in the past but i think
it has nothing to do with the problem. Now the cpu is back to
normal and my bios settings are default.
Well,it haven't pass from my mind that the PSU may cause these
problems. the fact is that my PSU is not one of the best in market.
it was the only part I didn't choose by myself when i built this pc.

However,i did mention the matter of VGA drivers because when
i log in in windows, lot's of warnings are poping-up and the
second reason is because all these things are happening to my
monitor...so the only thing could cause that is my VGA card. but
considering your replies, my PSU can cause the probs as well.
But even if the prob is my PSU,why it only fails when i'm booting
and not when i'm in windows? I've never faced PSU problem
before so I don't know the kind of the problems it can cause.

So, so far we have 3 suspects: RAM,PSU,VGA card. I think it would
cost me alot to change all this parts...so is it possible to find which
one is the problem?

Thanx again for your replies guys...

Alright well as it turns out, within the last 2 weeks my teacher had this same problem. All he needed to do was replace the power supply and everything worked fine. He even got the warnings in windows that you are talking about. If you have a voltometer test the power supply to see if its within the acceptable range. If you dont, rip a PSU from another comp if you have one and try it on yours.

-edit I really doubt it is the ram if you arnt getting a lot of beeps on startup, and have used the ram for a long time. Ram rarely goes bad after its good unless you fiddle with it. Power supply on the other hand die often.

ya i thought RAM isn't the problem because as you said, rarely
goes bad...and it's good brand (Kingston).
So,i will go buy a new PSU and i will post again if it's working fine.
thank you and your teacher =D

well, i just bought new PSU (enermax 460W) but it seems it
was the only part which didn't have problem. it seems it's vga
problem...screen freezes while i'm in windows, making strange
lines, lots of vga drivers errors on booting etc etc.
But when i boot my pc, i get the RAM error sound (1 long beep and 3-4 short beeps)... how the hell my system crashed down
so badly?

This story with my vga card caused me lots of troubles
especialy with my university projects and i totaly lost all my faith
to Ati... the new vga card i will buy will be Nvidia 6600GT and I
hope Nvidia will be more responsible than Ati because Ati's
online help is really bad (that's my opinion).
