So my 60 GB hd on my notebook is getting pretty full, but I don't want to delete my MP3s or the games I have on there. I have about 4 games that I play on and off that are all pretty large. I was thinking about buying an external hard drive for my MP3s and movies/episodes. I wouldn't be installing any games or programs on it. What's a good external HD to get? Should I try to get a firewire drive? That should be faster than USB 2.0.

believe it or not. this is not that well known but USB2.0 is faster than Firewire. Firewire is more compatable tho, so.. it's really ur choice.

I took a look at a couple and a few have both Firewire and USB 2.0 so I can take my pick I guess. My laptop has both ports.

Believe it or not, Firewire IS actually faster than USB2.0. Firewire can sustain a throughput of about 400mbps and YES USB2.0 can do UP TO 480mbps but that is for about a fraction of a second, it cannot sustain 480mbps like firewire can. This is due to Firewire using "Peer to Peer" type arcitechure and USB using "Master-Slave" acitechure.

Anyways, I suggest using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822173005 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822161827

They support both Firewire and USB2.0.

Alright, thanks. I would like something with 120+ GBs. That Iogear should work. I wasn't sure which HD to choose because there were a lot of names I didn't reccognize.
