Hello, I just recently built a new system that includes a Maxtor 160GB HDD. Is it normal for my drive to make amazingly annoying clicking noises everytime I boot up or open a simple word document? Is this a sign of failure or am I overreacting. Any feedback would be appreciated. By the way, my system:

windows xp
msi neo4 f
amd 3700 san diego
7800GT
maxtor 160gb
1gb corsair ram

Clicking sounds are a very bad indication of a bad/dieing HD.

Maxtors are known as bad drives. But That clicking noise is definitly not normal.

he means seagatge :D

it can also be yuor power supply, my seagate hdd was making annoying clicking noise everytiem i ddi something to access my hdd, then i changed out my psu andit was gone

One of my maxtors has been making clicking sounds since I bought it, which was like a year and more ago. Until now it's still working. It doesn't click constantly, but for sure during start up it does it once. It's really loud too.

maxtor arnt bad drives at all Iv had no problems with them. Iv had more trouble with my Western Digital drive. Some drives just like to make a lot of noise. Or could be the screws are loose holding it in I no when i ran out of screws and only used one it would make one hell of a noise :D

Well, I checked and it's definitely my maxtor, not the psu. I have an antec neopower 480. I guess I'll just get a seagate or WD. Rma time.
