Hi, I'm kinda new to the PC world but not ignorant (I know how to build one and everything) anyway, I'm in dire need of a GPU and there's been some dispute over what to do on other forums. Is a Geforce 6600 with 256MB of ram better than a 6600GT with 128MB at a faster speed? Soem say faster is better, some say more is better. I'd like to keep this purchase around 130$. Here's my Comp specs. Thanks.

Processor; AMD Athlon XP 1800+
RAM; 512MB PNY Optima DDR PC3200
Hard Disks; 1 Seagate 40GB 5400RPM, 1 Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM
PCI slots;RealtekLan PCI Card
(here we go) GPU; PNY Verto Geforce 4 MX440 w/ AGP 8x
Motherboard; Biostar M7VIT Pro
Power supply; Premium 400 Watt power supply
Optical Discs; 1 Sony CD-RW, 1 Toshiba DVD-RW (both internal)
Fans; CPU Radio Shack fan & Heatsync certified for up to 1700+, 1 Side fan on grill with light 80mm (came with case), 1 power supply fan (came with case)

Do a search. 6600GT is by far better. More RAM doesn't mean a better card. Once again, please do a search of TF before you post.

There is no 7800GS. 6600GT is dead and gone, it's starting to show it's age. Here is the new order:

6800GS
7800GT
7800GTX/X1800XT
7800GTX 512MB

Haha, the supposed videocard guru owned, a fine sight indeed.

From the low end;

9600Pro
9800Pro
6600
6600GT
6800
6800GS/6800GT
7800GS(Not here yet. Nvidia hasn't even let out a squeak about it, but there are working models in circulation).
7800GT
7800GTX/X1800XT
7800GTX-512MB

On a sidenote; I believe that shows Nvidia's complete domination of the videocard arena.

Maybe for people who live by themselves and have no car.

But for all us people who have average income and more bills to pay, the 6600gt is just fine.
