I'm building a new system and currently plan to install two WD 250 drives in RAID1. My thought was that this would be partitioned and one partition used as my boot disk with WINXP PRo. Some one told me that I should not use a RAID for my boot/OS disk. Is there any reason why? Would I not get near double read from the RAID1 during boot resulting in fast boot time?

Thanks.

RAID1 as with all others RAID arrays excluding RAID0 mirrors your data onto one or more drives for the purpose of fault tolerance...RAID1 will not speed up load times all whatsoever, that's RAID0 you're thinking of which strips the data and sends half to one drive and half to the other, theoritically cutting seek and access times in half

RAID can be used with any partition regardless of whether it holds your boot sector or not
