XP with sata

so i want to install a totally new OS and i currently have a XP version that is faulty. The problem that im having is the partitions that i want to install thenew OS is on the F drive, i have 1 IDE and 1sata HD, F is on the sata, everytime i got boot and start installing the new OS on the F drive it says it cant find it. Do i have to download some tool so the OS can notice the sata drive?

when you first boot from the xp cd, hit f6 when it ask you. when it ask for your sata floppy put it in.

or you can put the sata in a computer with windows already installed and partition it and then put it back on you other computer. then when the partition shows up, pick leave the file system intact
