Well, if you've got the money, and that's what you wanna do, I say go for it. $750 is a lot of money to throw down on a video card. Also, you better have a FX-57 or higher if you plan on getting everything out of the 7800GTX 512MB. If not... Stick to the 7800GTX - which still requires a very high-end CPU for maximum results.
You dont need an FX-57 to get good performance out of that thing. Yo ucan easily run it on say a 3200+. You only need an FX-57 if you want 5748905748390572075902FPS and to get that you would also need SLI.

Wow guys, it's not that hard to OC most 3200s or 3700s as fast or faster than the fx 57 ... geez, dont go telling people they need to spend another $1000 to get the full preformance out of a video card...

I'm in that position also I guess spend the money on a 17' LCD or buy a DVI to VGA cable for my 7800 512 Meg Video card.

Geforce 7800XGS and a 17' LCD monitor

or

Geforce 7800GGS 512Meg and a DVI to VGA converter (CRT moniter doesn't have DVI)

lol - yeah ok dude. I didn't tell anyone to spend anything.
oh it's so easy to overclock a 3200+ to faster then a FX-57. right dude.

You're going to tell me that you can get the full performance out of a 3200+ overclocked with a 7800GTX 512MB? I don't freakin' think so dude. WHY do you think that all benchmarks you see by reputible websites always use the highest end CPU aka FX-57 or FX-55 or Intel P4 3.73ee in allof their testbed setups? HUH? Answer me that?

Do you ever see a 3Dmark05 benchmark for testing new VIDEOCARDS with an overclocked 3200+? No you don't.

I'm not saying you need an FX-57 with the 7800GTX 512MB, i'm saying if you want the highest performance of that card you better have the highest end CPU. Not an overclocked 3200+.

Why would you buy a freakin' $750 videocard when you have a $160 Processor? That just doesn't make any freakin' sense.

Caviar & champange taste with a chips and soda wallet. Please.

Hey jackass read what i said. I was saying that you could get good performance out of it w/ a 3200+ and you would need an FX-57 to get the 5479534795347-FPS out of it. Also where in the f*ucking hell did i say anything about OCing? I DIDNT oo3 did so get your shit right. Also they use that shit for 1) They have the money to test the latest and greatest w/ the latest and greatest and 2) to see how well they will perform and how fast the card will actualy be w/ hardware that will actualy let it go its full potential.

Hmm it seems i said the EXACT same thing except i didnt say a **** thing about OCing. Jesus f*cking christ i hate dipshits liek you.

No I'm not. You're actually going to get better preformance with a 3200+ (or even better, a 3700+) overclocked to 2.8GHz, because not only is the CPU running as fast as the FX-57, but your RAM is also running faster. God. Common sense people. A 3700+ overclocked to 2.8GHz will preform better than an FX-57, because theoretically speaking, if you run a 3700+ sandy at 255x11, your RAM would then be running at DDR510, where as with the FX-57 it would be running at DDR400. All I'm saying is you can save a lot of money and get a lot of preformance with overclocking. And PPMguire, just stfu.

I want one really bad as much as I'm sure you want it. I'm also building a PC and am $185 overbudget as it is. When can we expect to see a price drop anytime soon?
