sound failure

I updated, but to no avail, same problem.
I don't want to have to purchase and install a sound card, I just want to resolve the problem, unless it is damaged of course - how do I confirm?
There are no yellow exclamations in device manager.
Anybody have any other ideas??
 
Do i need a new mobo, or just a soundcard?
I'm a bit pi**ed as the PC was only purchased in Aug/04!
 
Can anybody else confirm that this is a mobo failure, before i purchase and fit a new soundcard?
The sound still works after reinstallation of the drivers, which I am doing at each start-up!!
