MS word Questions

HI:

Whenever I create a new page on MS Word. there this things showing up here...at the top of the page on the sides and the bottom of the page on the sides too..
You can not erase this if you try.

This is what is showing up on the page. How do I get rid of this ?

open the normal.dot file, erase it, save it, then reopen it and see if its gone

Do you mind telling me what is this normal.dot file and where is it at ?? and what is this thing coming up on the MS word page ?
