sound help

This is my setup: I have headphones and a seperate desktop mic that i use for ventrilo and game chat. but whatever I am doing on my computer (playing a game, instant messaging, etc) the sound from that program is being transmitted through vent, which is very annoying for the people on the recieving end. I have AC97 onboard sound, on Windows XP. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

there are a few possibilities... but first I have a question:

Does your mic have voice recognition? - If so, figure out how to turn that off (Google It!)

or if it doesnt... try this:

1. connect to vent
2. click setup
3. make sure under line it says "Mircrophone"
