power dvd installs but upon runing hangs and then crashes the machine

I recently purchased a new HDD as I thought that the HDD might be to blame and after a fresh install on win xp pro corporate sp2 - exactly the same

I am now at my wits end why all the above can not and are not working

1 x wd 80gb hdd (brand new)
1 x maxtor 40 gb hdd
raid card - hooked upto 3 x 200 gb wd hdds

windows xp pro corp sp 2

any help would be truly appreciated - many thnx

Are these files you are trying to run associated to a program ?
ex: Do MPG's or AVI's have a program logo on the file ?
Or do they look unassociated.

Hi

I can pop a dvd into the drive and machine crashes

try to watch an avi - same result

likewise with mpegs

they all to me appear to be unassociated

thnx for quick response

yikes...
Ok lets do this :

Open a shell ( Example : My Documents or My Computer )
Go to : Tools/File Types
Look for MPG/AVI or whatever you need to play.
You will see "Opens With"
Choose the program you wish to play that file with.

tried that with no joy - as really limited as to the programs that will run them due to the fact that power dvd crashes when try to run

thnx

i havent loaded power dvd up on this occasion after new hard drive due to problems before

every program that i have installed

nero showtime
winamp
windows media player

crashes the machine when trying to play a dvd

at a loss this end

thnx

Do you see any error Icons in your Device Manager ?
Have you updated all the drivers necessary after your New HDD installation ?

hi

no errors at all in device manager - as meticulous about that likewise with all drivers - all the very latest - someone that i know has suggested that it could be dust on the cpu fan as he had a similar problem

i recall this started upon intalling my new soundblaster audigy 4 pro card

cant seem to think that would be the rpoblem though

thnx
