f is the aperture. basically, the size of the hole in the lens. the bigger it is, the more light gets in, and in traditional cameras, it means you can set a faster shutter speed.
because if you have a faster shutter speed, it doesn't let as much light in. it compensates for the amount oflight let in by the higher aperture.
and a faster shutter speed = more still picture

although I'm not sure what the F2 is. I think that might be the zoom.
