computer not booting

my cd rom drive wasnt working and I wanted to reformat my computer so I removed my hardrive to reformat on another computer. I reformated my hardrive and put it back in my computer to start up but it didnt start up instead it brought up this blue screen that said something about removing any newly instaled software or hardrives. What I dont get is why it starts on my friends but doesnt start on my computer.

Did you install drivers for that machine on your HDD ?
Can you boot into safe mode at all to change drivers ?

i do not have a chance to get to the windows xp screen. When i click boot and safe mode it takes me to the blue screen. can someone help
