if you're going to buy your own, then static's build is great, except maybe get a 6800gs instead of the 6800gt (it's 80 bucks cheaper for the gs and it's just as good)

Ok im so sorry if im gonna get u pissed right now but My whole family uses this computer and my mother isnt really into the idea of getting a new computer cause i think she likes this crappy one so i was wondering if you guys know anything that could make the computer faster without getting a new computerr? Those are for your basic specs, to get more into detail, I forgot the link, but there's a program called Everest Home Edition - it's free and tells you all of your specs

Monarch makes really good custom built PCs at good prices. my friend ordered a 1500dollar build from them, its a sweet setup.

You really SHOULD get a whole new PC. Chances are, if you get a new videocard, that there is something else in your PC which will slow it down and then the videocard will be pretty much useless. I know the kind of situation you're in right now though. You should have your Mom/Parents take a look at this thread.

A good component in a bad computer = bad computer. Your parts all have to be on the same level. I know I keep saying this over and over, but think of it this way; a level 12 part, in a level 5 computer will only come out to be a level 5 computer (There are no such things as computer levels, I'm just making it up for the sake of showing you).

So its best to built your own. If you can't (its not that hard), then go with Monarch Computer Systems or some maker like that. With those, you just need to know what parts to choose (and we can help with that).

i just found out something. My friend the one with the compaq presario that was 1000$ said that it was worth 4-700$ hes computer he said he got ripped off so if anyone can find me a good computer from 4-700$ That would be appreciated preferbly a compaq presario like him but its ok if u get something else. ALSO JUST WONDERING does a router effect the internet? I know a router makes u have internet like for example on a upstars computer and a downstairs but does a router make your computer which already had internet go faster??? Sorry if i confused u
