memory test on post

On my dads computer when it goes through post the memory test keeps repeating over and over until I hit escape to cancel it.
After that the computer seems to run normally. What is wrong with it? is it bad ram?

look through the bios settings. if it has something along the lines of "enable quick post" enable it.

go into the bios and check settings. However, don't screw anything up, computers are fragile.

win xp pro
