Hello,

I am in the middle of deciding what card to get for my next build.
I have a budget of about maximum $900AU.

Now, i had decided on the 7800GTX 256mb, then ATI release there X1800XT 512mb, and now Nvidia has Released a 7800GTX 512mb.
I was under the impresson the 7800GTX 512mb was the same card just with 256mb more of ram and faster core and memory speeds.
I did a quick search on StaticIce (Australian search engine for computer parts) and the search returns results like this.

ASUS EN7800GT-DUAL-512 GF7800GTX2 $1361 AU

I had a quick speak to a friend about what 7800GTX2 means, i also had a look at the site and it says "Equipped with TWO newest generation GeForce 7800 GT GPUs and fastest."

My friend told me this card has 2 GPUs. I find this hard to beleive because i have been following the realease of the X1000 and 7800 Series from both Nvidia and ATI and have not heard anything about Dual Core Cards.

So what Exactly does "GF7800GTX2" mean?

Yes that is the dual-core 7800GT/GTX series, i.e with 2 GPU'S (256MB frame buffer per GPU, 512MB total). Due for release from later this year to ealy next year.

Really? I never heard of that... Imagine quad dual core GTXs on that quad sli gigabyte mobo

Oh I know... But the problem is driver and application support. SLI (as in 2 regular single-cored cards) is only just breaking into the mainstream user base as it is, a 4-8 GPU configuration will no doubt be buggy as hell initially. Not to mention costing an arm and a leg.

isn't there a single core 512MB 7800 coming out?

Yes there is, presumably prior to the dual-cores (some retailers are allegedly said to already stock single-core 512MB 7800GTX's).
