Cables slow down?

Could the cables slow down your hard drive, cd rom etc. (those really wide and flat cables, inside the computer, forgot what they are called) I don't wanna get a fast hard drive and end up having it slowed down by some weird cables. If they do, what are the fastest cables?

As far as I know, the IDE cables do not have any direct effect on your hard drives performance (unless its not working of course).

I believe that it depends more on what you have connected to the IDE cables than anything else. For example, if you had a hard drive (master) and a CD burner (slave) on the same cable, and tried burning files from the hard drive, that would be slower than having them on seperate IDE cables.

If you have a regular gray ide cable, then yes, it will slow down your computer. Can your motherboard and hard drive support ATA, either 66, 100, or 133. If so get an Ultra ATA cable, you will see a big speed increase.

Just to add on to The51's post ...
The normal PC33 IDE cables have 40 wires n' the UATA PC66 cables have 80 wires

and if ur getting new cables, why not to get those rounded ones. they're smaller and prvide better airflow. and theyre FUNKY!!! JIIHAA!!
