Is there a tool that should be used to remove the IDE/ATA ribbon cable from the back of a hard drive.

I frequently connect and disconnect the cable from hard drives because I use a removable drive bay drawer. I have one of the drawers that the installed ribbon cable has split because of the frequent removal. Darn things are very hard to hold onto with my fingers, and the ribbon cable has suffered. I have tried needle nose pliers, etc. to hang onto the plastic part to prevent damage to the cable, but that is awkware too, and slips off some of the time, perhaps causing damage to the thin cable too.

Any suggestions?

Is there a tool specifically designed for this purpose that will prtect the cable?

Please, no comments that I should buy a extra removable tray/drawer for each of the drives and leave them in place. That is not a solution for my application.

Thanks in advance.
