Ext Hdd

hi everyone...
ive just been browsing forums and stes...
deal is, i want to get a new ext hdd...my laptop only has40GB

so im thinking maybe and interal drive with an enxlosure .
id like some advice on specs...

right now im looking for a 300-400 gb drive (probably settle for 300, as price diff is huge, almost a 100$) cuz my laptop has only 40gb

im getting a Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 300GB 7200rpm 16MB cache SATA-150 oem Hdd for less than 100USD..think i can use that?

thing is...id like to know how much the RPM would matter, by how much, and wherether sata/ide would affect access considering im going to be using usb2 / firewire. whats the best options that i would have???
go all out techinal if u have to




oh andive got this habit of installing my games, burning isos for them (after my brother gave away my HL cd, and some1 stole my RA2)... so im wondering, if speeds wouldbe bad if i had the isos on the ext hdd, and the game read it from that

oh btw...i noticed summin funny inone of the old posts here...
someone was talking about their rigged up pc...and someone replied with " may i have a picture of it without the case...sounds awesome, and id really like to look"

LMFAO...guess it could happen.
The 7200 is good speed but i just dont like maxtor. For that cheap though id say go for it unless it is out of the back of a truck.

thaks for ur input.... id also like to know about using sata drives as opposed to ide drives , i know that sata would be a good choice...but fot ext drives...does it matter?

Dont think it would matter for an external as it would have to route through firewire or usb.
