what do i need to get to convert a WMA or AVI into DVD format so i can burn it onto a dvd cd and make it work in my dvd player?

You need some kind of DVD authoring software. I use ULEAD DVD MovieFactory. I find it to be easy to use, and pretty powerful.

Surely you mean WMV?
WMA = Windows Media Audio
WMV = Windows Media Video

In answer to your question, there are tons of programs that do that, just google it.

Winavi video converter can convert avi to dvd . And it can support almost all video format to dvd/vcd... and burn them on discs. But it may be unable to convert wma files.

this is the only software that I know of that can do it.

it can make a dvd mp3 disc (every program can do that) or it can make an audio dvd (it is in pcm format. it would be the equivalent to 7 audio cd's). this is something different than dvd audio
